Webb,
I think it all sucks big time! This country is so ass backwards it’s ridiculous. If you want to know why kids are out of control and getting into so much trouble, it’s because they are bored with nothing to do. It’s a well known fact that kids involved in after school or extra-curricular activities do much better in the areas of academics, behavior, and leadership. By taking music out of the schools you are eliminating the opportunity for kids to find beauty, culture, and relief in an already hectic environment of class work and pier pressure. Music calms, soothes and relaxes the soul, spirit and nature of a person. The sheer act of learning to play an instrument is wonderful and gives kids a since of achievement, the idea that they can actually make music on their own and have it enjoyed by others. There are too many negatives in the schools today and some kids find relief in the activities, music being one of them. They have already lessened PE classes and America now has the largest obesity problem on the planet! Learn from your mistakes and add cultural programs to the schools, not eliminate them. They need to chew some of the fat that’s on these executive boards to decrease the spending at that level. Too much bureaucracy, too many chief, and not enough Indians! This country will not be able to complete in the electronic, information and technology age with what we are teaching today. That being said, you can’t create scientific robots out of these kids because they aren’t all meant to be math & science gurus. Our kids will be emotionless, non-creative, and thoughtless without cultural identities if we don’t instill it in them through art, music, drama, exercise, and thought provoking activities. The people making these decisions are themselves fans of the old R&B, POP, Rock, Country, Classical, Opera and other music styles developed over the past 100 years. They are also the same people that complain about the lack of good music being created by today’s artist. How will you create the next generation of musical artist if you don’t teach them the art of music, harmony, rhythm, and feeling. It is truly a sad day for the public school system.
Where in the hell is all of that Lottery money going?

Not only has music died in schools but gym class has also. What happened to recess? This is why some of the kids are so fat and lazy today. What ever happened to the chain gang prisons and bread and water? If they would make prison a miserable place to go, no one would be to eager to get there and the extra money saved from making jail so nice could go to the school system.

Remember when you were in Kindergarden now it's called Pre-K how your teacher taught you how to remember your ABC's he or she taught you to sing them right, See singing and music goes back to pre-school and children relate music with learning a child at the age of 6month to a year old can recognize music when heard just think when you are singing and playing music while your child is still in the womb he or she moves because they can hear sounds so if you take music out of the schools you are hindering children from learning and relating music with learning...Let your child hear a song once and they can sing the words let them hear a tune played they can play it in there head by humming... so music is an essential to learning.
